Our History

1999

It started with a dream to become a better woodworker. Scott started our part-time custom woodworking business and trademarked our business name, Wooden It Be Nice.  As Scott took on customer projects to design and build their furniture, it stretched his skills.  With an eye for detail and some formal design training, Scott's  passion was proving he could  build complex woodworking pieces.

2014

After working with a wood finishing business to finish the pieces we built, the owner asked Scott if he could make a leaf that was missing from a table.  Besides figuring out how to align the leaf pins properly, it was a straight forward project.  From there, the next request was to repair a chair with broken parts.

Over the next few years, more broken furniture came into our workshop that required care and craftsmanship to repair them.  This was a transition period for our business where we provided both custom woodworking and furniture repair services.  With a learning curve overcome, new techniques established and a retooling of the workshop, we transitioned our business to only provide furniture repairs in 2016.

2019

With an interest in showing potential customers what our business was capable of, we started our Fixing Furniture YouTube channel in March 2019.  After posting several videos, viewers were responding with appreciation for the content and asking many questions.  Furniture repair seemed a bit of a mystery to viewers.

At the same time, many of the people we knew in our local industry were close to retirement age.  That's when we decided to open the doors of our workshop to the world to teach people about furniture repair.  We believe this is a disappearing craft and we want to share this knowledge with the world.

Today

Our Fixing Furniture YouTube channel has been awarded the Silver Play Button award from YouTube for reaching 100,000 subscribers.

Our goal at Fixing Furniture is to teach and educate our members about furniture repair and restoration. This includes woodworking skills, finishing skills, demonstrating tools, techniques and approaches to respectfully restore furniture. Regular comments from viewers and subscribers of our Fixing Furniture YouTube channel shows that people appreciate the content and the format we use in our videos, and are learning from it. We have now launched this membership program to provide a richer and more interactive experience for people looking to learn furniture repair skills.
